Terrorism: Lawmaker mourns Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu

….Says Nigeria has lost a gallant soldier with a heart for service

Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon.(Dr.) Yusuf Buba Yakub, has described the death of Brigadier- General Dzarma Zirkusu over the weekend in an ambush by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists as a huge loss to the people of Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State and the nation at large.

Buba, who represents Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated this on Monday in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Nkem Anyata-Lafia, in Abuja.

He said the late General was a fine officer, who was not only committed to his chosen profession, but had the heart to do everything he could to make the people feel safe and free wherever he found himself.

The lawmaker recalled several instances when the late General had brought succour to situations that looked quite apprehensive and said he would be greatly missed by colleagues and the people of the North East Zone in particular, who he served with uncommon commitment until his last breath.

Buba commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, his constituents at Gombi/ Hong Federal Constituency, Adamawa State and the nation on the loss of a man he described as ” a Hero of Many Hearts”, including colleagues, locals and those in authority.

“It’s really a sad moment for all of us who had known and followed the rise of General Dzarma Zirkusu in the Nigerian Army.

“He was a fine, gentleman officer, who was everything a soldier should be.

“He looked physically strong. He was brave. He was smart and quite knowledgeable in his calling.

“Above all, he was kind to the people he was commissioned to serve and did his job with outstanding passion.

“He was, indeed,a soldier’s soldier and we all looked forward to many great years ahead for him to be sung. Alas, those years have been cut short by our common tormentors in our Zone,” he said.

While praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the gallant officer and those of some three other soldiers, who were cut down alongside the General at Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, where they had been on their way to provide re-enforcement to comrades battling insurgents in the area, Buba also enjoined the Nigerian Army not to lose sight of the victory ahead of them, but to continue to press on against the terrorists.

He stressed that the victory of good over evil is as certain as daylight.

He assured the Army of the prayers and continuous support of all Nigerians and urged them to accept the deep condolences of all on the loss of the men of valour, who put their lives on the line to keep our nation in peace.
