Group asks PDP to pick Obi as Presidential Candidate. Insists Presidency should be zoned to South East

A Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), the Nigerian Consultative Forum (NCF), has asked the main opposition party in the country, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to adopt former Governor of Anambra State as its Presidential Candidate in 2023 presidential election.

The group in a communique released to newsmen after their meeting in Abuja last Friday said the call for PDP to adopt Obi was based on his track-record when he was the Governor of Anambra State.
In the communique issued by the group after their meeting in Abuja, they said Obi as the Governor of Anambra State provided leadership to Ndi Anambra coupled with his developmental strides.

NCF in the communique, said Obi as the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria will no doubt provide such transformational leadership and developmental strides in large measure.

“The interest of all NIgerians will be his utmost priority.Obi’s zero tolerance to corruption has given him serious advantage over and above all other aspirants,” said the group.

They called on the PDP not to dilly dally in stamping the zoning of its candidate for the 2023 election to the South East to ensure justice, equity, and fairness.

NCF called on the aspirants from the North, including former Vice-President, Atiku Abubukar, Sokoto State Governor, Tabuwal, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki among others to drop their ambition for the interest of equity and fairness for South East.

He warned some PDP chieftains who are of the opinion that they will regain power with a presidential candidate from North, would be surprised by the time they lose woefully because the thinking of many NIgerians have changed with President Buhari’s eight years of insecurity and economic woes.

NCF said the mind set of NIgerians is that power should shift to South East but the political class, for selfish interest is blocking it.

“Our advise to the leadership of PDP is to hearken to the voice of NIgerians and zone its presidential slot to South East,” said the group

And if it is zoned to the South East, NCF argued, Obi should be given the opportunity to fly the ticket because of his zero corruption and capacity to turn around the misfortune of NIgeria.

“He has capacity to revamp our near dead economy which has been marred by serious recession. Our economy needs serious surgical treatment. We need power, good network of roads, good eduction, job creation, housing, improved transport system, good healthcare delivery, massive provision of ICT knowledge, pragmatic foreign policy among other progressive policies which only a transformational leader like Obi can provide,” the group concluded.
