Indiscriminate Arrest: Call Your Chieftaincy Commissioner, PG to Order, Ex Ifitedunu PG Appeals to Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been called upon to prevail on his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Collins Nwabunwanne to stay clear of Ifitedunu and squarely face his job.

The Concerned Stakeholders of Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, made the call following series of Police arrests, intimidation and detention by the Police in the community at the instance of the commissioner and the reinstated President General of Ifitedunu, Mr. Uchenna Nwoye.
He asked; since the commissioner had succeeded in reinstating his friend as the President General, why are they now troubling the community?

The former President General of Ifitedunu, Mr. Samuel Nweke, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, said the Police at Zone 13, Ukpo have invited himself and five others to appear before them on Monday August 2, 2022.

On July 28, 2022, he said that the court made an order detaining Emenike, a member of the community based on misinformation but the court rescinded the order the following day when it found out that the offence was not the type that warranted such an order.

Nweke alleged that he called the commissioner to complain about the indiscriminate arrests, but he made it clear to him that he was part of it and boasted that the arrest would continue.

The commissioner, according to Nweke, was quoted as saying that the governor was aware of the arrest but said he was convinced it was not true.

Nweke appealed to the governor to direct the commissioner to face his official duties, since he was not appointed commissioner for Ifitedunu.
The former PG said since he has reinstated his friend as the president-General and everybody kept quiet they should leave the people alone.
Unfortunately, two days after Nwoye’s return, the arrest of people indiscriminately in Ifitedunu continued and when they complained to the commissioner, he boasted that more arrests would be made, stating that it was on the directive of Governor Soludo.

He also asked the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), zone 13, Alhaji Muri Musa, to prevail on the officers they have been using for these indiscriminate arrests and intimidatation, and detail Ngozi Nwokoma, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to hands off.

Nweke said if anybody felt he has been defamed, such a person or persons should go to court, instead of using their offices to intimidate, arrest and detain people in the community due to mere exchange of words.
