Group Lauds Soludo Obidigwe,Udoba, Anekwe over donation to flood victims

The United Eagles’Club of Anam, Anambra State, has lauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for his gesture in visiting and donating relief materials to flood victims in Anambra State.

The Governor of the club, Mr. Odikpo Mmadubueze, also commended the Honorable Member representing Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, Hon. Patrick Obalim Udoba and Chief Peter Udogala Anekwe for their gesture of donating relief materials to the flood victims in various camps in the State.

Expressing joy for the visit and relief materials donated to the victims in Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs) camps, Mmadubueze, a journalist and an author, described the gesture as historic and monumental, adding that Governor Soludo has proven to be proactive and productive.

Mr Mmadubueze who made the commendation in an interview with Journalists at the Crowther Memorial School Onitsha, IDP camp explained that the extent of response from the Anambra State Government, representatives of both federal and state Governments showed the seriousness of Governments and individuals over the pitiable plight of the people.

Although he regretted that Government of Anambra State was yet to come up with a time proven panacea to flood ravaging riverine communities in the State from time to time, he however suggested building of Permanent IDP camps and storage facilities across the riverine communities in the State to avert perpetual displacement of people and unprecedented damages experienced by farmers during flooding.

Mmadubueze suggested that dredging of the River Niger by the Federal Government should be the best solution to the intermittent flooding.

Hon. Obidigwe, representing Anambra East and West in the House of Representatives had in 2020 moved a motion on the floor of the House mandating the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to dredge the Anambra River to stem the tide of flooding in the communities of Enugu, Anambra and Kogi States.

Obidigwe in his motion which was unanimously approved by the House said the cost of dredging the Anambra River would be minimal compared to the huge cost of monumental human and material damage experienced by the people of riverine areas during flooding like the present one.

Unfortunately, the motion was not implemented by the Federal Government, hence the monumental flooding of these communities this year again which has claimed several lives, sacked the entire riverine communities and destroyed crops, buildings and other investments worth several billions of naira.
