Rev. Ossy Oguaka of Fountain of Life Anglican Church, New Haven Estate, Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, has expressed the need for Christians to give to the poor.

He said that when people give to the poor they are lending to God.

Speaking on Sunday when the church splashed over N500, 000.00 worth of food items to indigent members of the church, the cleric said giving to the poor has scriptural backing.

Citing the book of Proverb chapter 19 vs 17, Rev. Oguaka said: “when you give to the poor, you are lending to God and God will reward you for what you have done.”

He said there are some people in the Church who don’t have something to eat in their homes but if surprisingly they get something, they would be glad.

He stated that the church deemed it necessary to put joy in every home, especially this Christmas season.

The cleric said he initiated the idea and set up the committee which rallied round and gathered money to buy the food items, even as he advised Churches and spirited individuals to emulate his Church by giving to the less privileged ones among them.

“Let’s support the less privileged ones among us. In any condition, there must be someone you are better than. Try to give out, no matter how little,” said Rev. Oguaka.

The Welfare Committee Chairman, Sir. Chinedu Ezeora commended Rev. Oguaka who he said obeyed the Holy Spirit’s direction to set up Welfare Committee who organised the event.

He noted that the committee worked as a team to ensure that all the less privileged ones in the Church collected food items as planned.

He expressed happiness for actually putting smiles on the faces of their members.

The chairman said they have not been doing such in the Church until Rev. Oguaka introduced it to them.

A member of the Welfare Committee, Mrs Chinyere Izuagba, urged the beneficiaries to continue worshipping God so that by next year they will have to give others.

About 13 persons benefitted from the exercise in which food items like yam tubbers, bags of Rice, cartons of Noddles, Tins of Tomatoes, Onions, Wrappers, Groundnut oil, amongst others were shared to them.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke commended Rev.Oguaka and the Wellfare Committee members for their vision.
