The Chairman of Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, has vowed to shut down the shops of traders who refused to align with the directive of Governor Chukwuma Soludo that every trader should clean his environment, including the drainage system in front of his shop.
Ochiogu spoke last Friday, April 7, 2023 which was declared environmental exercise day for every trader in the market.
He expressed happiness that majority of the traders joined in the exercise especially the cleaning and excavation of dirts from gutters.
Explaining the benefits of the exercise, the Ogbaru Main Market leader explained that with the clearing of drainages, there would be ease and free-flow of flood during the impending rainy season.
Which implies according to him that the market would be less prone to flood disaster and the traders would entertain less fear that their shops and goods would be submerged during the rainy season.
He said cleaning the market and the drainages is for the interest of the traders themselves.
Commending the Governor for this laudable initiative, Ochiogu advised the people and residents of Anambra State on the need to keep their environment clean whether in the market or residential areas.
While inspecting the exercise, he warned that on no account should anybody throw dirt into drainage system, warning that if caught, the person’s shop would be closed until he has convinced them that he has purged himself.
Some of the traders who spoke to newsmen during the exercise were impressed, saying that “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
Sam Ebelebe of Equity Line said: “You don’t tell people to be clean. The problem is that some are less concerned but we should not allow the market to be taken over by refuse.”
He commended Ochiogu for his exemplary leadership qualities, which he said, is being exhibited in the manner he handles issues in the market.
Edmund Ezenwa, Immaculate Line, equally expressed joy and support for the exercise, saying that Ochiogu is God ordained leader.
