The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC), has warned on the danger of using articulated vehicles to carry human beings, which they said is becoming a norm among Nigerians.
Speaking weekend when they paid courtesy call to the president of Ogbaru Main Market, near Onitsha, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, the Deputy Corp Commander, Anambra Sector Command, Okorra Awassam, said that the Corp Marshal has directed them to warn Nigerians of danger danger of articulated vehicles carrying people from far away in the Northern part of the country to Southern part of Nigeria.
Awassam who represented the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi at the event, said their boss seriously frowned against it because of the danger it posed to the occupants in case of accident.
She said in case of any eventuality, the occupants would be thrown out of the vehicle because there is nothing to protect them as such vehicles were not meant to carry human beings.
Awassam said their mission to the Market was to identify with Ochiogu , who she described as one of the friends of the corps and the entire traders of the market.
She added that they also came to appreciate God and celebrate with Mr. Ochiogu for his reinstatement as the President General of the Market by the State government.
She lauded the tremendous achievements of Mr. Ochiogu in the Market, stating that God is using him to reposition Ogbaru Main market for the benefit of all.
” Sir, we actually came to celebrate with you because of your return back to the Market. So, your coming back attest to your uprightness and good leadership. You have always been our friend and we always identify with people around us who are our friends” she said.
The DCC assured Ochiogu to always feel free to call their office whenever any of his traders face traffic challenge with their field operatives but warned that the traders should always strive to be update with their driving documents and strictly comply with traffic rules.
She urged the traders to always be conscious of safety whenever they are on the road, praying that God would continue to use Mr. Ochiogu to bless humanity and equally sustain the relationship he had already created with the corp.
Appreciating his guests, Mr. Ochiogu eulogised FRSC for their commitment to reduce or eradicate accident on Nigerian roads, particularly the traffic they control at Upper Iweka, near their market.
He said that he is a friend to the corps and recalled how he assisted corps officers who operated at Upper Iweka axis to ease their job.
He appealed to them to repeat the visit in two weeks time in order to enlighten his members on the need for safety on the road during their prayer session.
He also pleaded with them to always see traders as people who are ignorance as far as Road Safety rules and regulations are concerned and not deliberate violators of the rules.
Mr. Ochiogu recalled his achievements such as restoration of security, provision of solar light in the market, building of toilets and bathroom among others.
Present at the event were some Market executives who included; General Secretary of the Market, Mr. Wisdom Obasi and his Assistant Secretary, Mr. Bucknor Agu among others who lauded the Corps officers, saying that their visit was a clear testimony of their love for Ochiogu and the entire traders of the market.
